2007 Results

2007 Comes to an End
Following a disappointing qualifying result, the Sierra Pipe team came into eliminations with optimism.  A troubled run in the first session, with Howard out of the throttle for more than 1 1/2 seconds in low gear, still yielded a run good enough to qualify for this tough field.  The second qualifying run, resolved the problems in the first and the car left perfect again, but straight this time.  When he shifted 2nd, the transmission broke. As eliminations began, we were confident that we could run a mid to high 6.6 second run and get back into the game.  Unfortunately we never had a chance, as a air line to the transmission failed before the burnout and we never had a chance to run.

Congratulations to the AA/Supercharged members that made the trek to Bakersfield.

Mike Molea:  Qualified 5th - 6.87 @ 193.75 - Semi Final Finish

Bakersfield Final Qualifying Results

On the second and final qualifying pass, the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy left the line straight and true.  The 60' ET matched yesterday at 1.03.  The front wheels were running higher than normal, but no problem for Howard.  When he shifted 2nd gear, the transmission broke and the run was over.  We had to sweat out the entire session to see if our 6.92 would keep us qualified in this tough field of 8 cars, with 15 tough teams attempting to qualify for Sunday.  When the dust settled, we dropped to the 8th and final qualifying spot.  The field was set, with our 6.92 as the bump spot.  Whewwwwwwwww.............
Our spare transmission was installed, with a gear ratio better suited for Sunday and we are ready to do battle again.  The final qualifying results are shown below.

We Did Our Job.......But

689.JPG

Following qualifying in Medford, the Anderson team was on top of the heap with a strong 6.89.  Mitch Chamberlin was close behind at 6.93.  Scott White was not able to wedge himself between us and Mitch, but did post a 7.00 second ET.  This was a great accomplishment, as Scott slammed the wall during testing Friday and put things together to hold down the #3 spot in qualifying.  Based on the final qualifying standings, we will have to hope for help from other AA/Supercharged teams to keep Mitch out of the final round.  We will do our BEST and let the chips fall as they will.  Qualifying results are show below.

1  Howard Anderson   6.898  200.83
2  Mitch Chamberlin    6.932  202.82

Woodburn Eliminations Quick Results

Raceday was a new adventure for the Sierra Pipe race team. The #1 qualifying position on Saturday, set a match-up with the #5 qualified car of Mike Molea.  Unbelievably, the #5 spark plug failed again, at 1.5 seconds. The race began with virtually even reaction times. The even start, combined with a seven cylinder 7.02 second run, spelled defeat for the #1 qualifier.  The defeat came at the hands of a 6.92 second ET by Mike.  A standard NHRA ladder would have rewarded the #1 qualifier, with a match-up with the #8 qualifier and the result would have been certain victory with the 7.02 ET.  Following this discouraging result, the crew replaced the plug wire, cap and rotor and went back out to see if the spark problem was resolved.  Mike Molea damaged the engine in the victory and could not return for the semi-finals.  We came back to race Scott White, who would have been our opponent, if we won first round.   The White team automatically advanced to the final, based on the problems with Mike.  The Anderson / White race resulted in the quickest side-by-side pass of the weekend.  The Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy clocked the quickest and fastest pass of the weekend at 6.800 at 202MPH.  Scott White was right along side with a 6.86 pass.  The White Family racing team also carded a all-time best 166 MPH half-track speed.  The Sierra Pipe team left Woodburn with a piece of mind, knowing the problem was fixed.

Scott White raced Mitch Chamberlin a great final and took a hole-shot win, 6.89 to a strong 6.87 pass by Mitch.  Congratulations to the White team for a great performance in eliminations.  The season point standing are still tight going into the final event at Medford, in September.  Look for updated points and information from Woodburn, in the coming days.

Woodburn Qualifying Results

Qualifying at Woodburn was up to par for the competitive nature of the 2007 AA/Supercharged season.  Qualifying was as tight as ever, with the top half of the field in the six-second zone.  When the dust settled, the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy was on top of the heap.  The first pass resulted in current event best ET and MPH.  The car left weak, with a sub-par 1.11 60' time and severe bouncing in 2nd and 3rd gear.  The final result was a 6.85 second ET at 201.70MPH.  The second pass was filled with problems.  The car left better, with short shift points in 2nd and 3rd gear.  A spark plug broke and the car limped on seven cylinders to the 6.75 second mark.  Stepping off the throttle at this point, resulted in a 6.93 ET at 187MPH.  Final Qualifying results and pictures are shown below.

1.  Howard Anderson          6.857            201.70
2.  Mitch Chamberlin           6.887            201.61
3.  Scott White                     6.940            199.07
4.  Gary Renero                    6.967            197.97
5.  Mike Molea                      7.094            190.75
6.  Ron Nahas                       7.142            180.83
7.  Dave Ingles                      7.295            189.35
8.  Dave Thompson              7.493             183.22

New Motor New Day

680.JPG
681.JPG

Sunday brought a new motor and a new day.  Based on all the recent problems, we had no idea what to expect.  Howard was matched against the multi-time series champion, Gary Renero, without lane choice.  The match-up produced a low-et 6.82 second run at greater than 200 MPH, for the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy.  The motor had absolutely no problems and everything seemed like it was back to normal.

MISSIONR1.jpg

The semi-finals matched Howard against Scott White, with Dave Inglis taking a single to the finals.  The White/Anderson match-up was great.  Howard was able to take a hard earned win, with a 6.81 second pass, compared to a great 6.97 effort from the White team.  Dave Inglis had transmission problems and could not stage the car.  By rule, this gave the hard earned event win to the Anderson team.......congratulations to us.

MISSIONR2.jpg

With the race results final, Scott White came back to match with Howard for the final pass of the day.  Unfortunately the White Family Racing car broke the rear end.  The Anderson Racing 38' Chevy set low ET and Top Speed of the event at 6.80 at 202 MPH.  Howard combined that with a eliminations best .024 reaction time.  Wow.........................

Mission Canada Qualifying Results

Saturday qualifying at mission brought a mixed bag of results for the members of the AA/Supercharged association.  On top of the heap was Mitch Chamberlin, with a blistering 6.85 second run at greater than 201 MPH.  The next three qualifies were locked at 6.96 seconds, with Gary Renero and Scott White ending qualifying, welded to side-by-side 6.96 second ET's.  The Canadian representative; Brett Harris experienced a blower explosion and fire at the finish line, to end his weekend.  A great note from qualifying:  Gary Renero had a prefect reaction time in the first round of qualifying ".000".

The Sierra Pipe Racing team suffered from unknown damage occurred during the Sacramento test.  On our first qualifying pass, we had to negotiate a lane suffering from a major oil down.  The Mission race crew performed the most intensive cleanup operation that I have ever witnessed, in my 20 years of drag racing.  Unfortunately, synthetic transmission fluid is nearly impossible to deal with, especially when it was laid from start line to finish line.

Woodburn Eliminations Results
Intermittent rain showers are the theme for the day.  We do have wireless Internet at the track and the down time provides a chance for a quick update.  Here are the first round winners and winning ET's:

Mike Molea 6.97
Gary Reinero  7.01
Howard Anderson 7.14  Tire Shake, Burned Push rods x 6
Dave Inglis 7.49

The semi-finals will match Mike Molea vs Gary Reinero and Howard Anderson Dave Inglis.  Lane Choice goes to Mike and Howard.

The semi-finals resulted in engine damage for Mitch Chamberline and a solid run for Dave Inglis.  In both cases they were not able to overcome the performance of Howard and Mike Molea.  Howard was on a low 6.9 second run and felt the engine labor and shut off.  The result was a 7.16 second victory, at a slowing 166 MPH.  Mike Molea put down a solid 6.97 second run to advance to the championship round.  After evaluation of the computer data and a marginal leak check, the Anderson racing team was not able to run for the championship.  Mike Molea took the title unchallenged.  To give the fans a real race, Gary Renero came back to run Mike Molea, with no effect on the final outcome.  Gary ran a great 6.97 ET, to beat Mike in a race, with no effect on the final results.  Mike experienced the problem, that the Anderson race team feared, by kicking out the rods at mid-track.  We feel bad for Mike and congratulate Gary for constant improvement during eliminations.

Our weekend resulted in a total of 21 burned intake push rods.  The good news was the fact that impeccable motor preparation did not result in catastrophic damage.  The dead push rods are shown below.

Woodburn AA/Supercharged Qualifying Results

Saturday qualifying at Woodburn included the final two elimination rounds from Seattle.  The first semi-final match included Mike Molea vs Mitch Chamberline.  Around the 200' mark, Mike Molea got crossed up and Mitch Chamberline took the win with a 7.21 ET.  Dana Wilt was on a single to advance to the final.  In the final Mitch Chamberline took the win with great consistency.  He posted a solid 7.08 ET to overcome a career best 7.37 for Dana.  Congratulations go out to both competitors and a Wally for Mitch's trophy shelf.

As for the Anderson team, the push rod problems continue.  We made a single qualifying pass at 7.02, to set ourselves second in the field for Sunday.  On this pass we took out six push rods, killing all of the horsepower.................again.  We have done extensive research and evaluation of each and every component, to try and get through eliminations without problems.  The forecast once again is calling for rain. Wish us luck with the weather and push rods and we will update you again on Monday
.

Seattle AA/Supercharged Eliminations

Saturday at Pacific Raceway brought a big dose of sit and wait.  Persistent showers all  afternoon did not allow for any elimination rounds to be run on this day.  The Sunday weather forecast included a 50% chance of rain through the day, as apposed to 30% chance on Saturday and the team had a hard decision to make.  With Fathers day commitments, a dismal weather forecast and a 14 hour drive ahead, the team decided to take a chance and head for home.  We rolled the dice and it came up snake eyes, as the weather allowed for a single round of eliminations on Sunday.  The entire Anderson Racing team owes a huge apology to Russ Stevenson and the rest of the Pacific Raceway management and staff for making our decision to leave and not properly informing them.

The Semi-final and Final rounds of eliminations will be run at this weeks event at Woodburn Oregon.  The eliminations will be run as part of Saturday qualifying.  Three cars will fight it out for the title and the Wally that goes with it.  Remaining competitors include:  Mike Molea, Mitch Chamberline and Dana Wilt.  We wish them all good luck and the results should be available Saturday night.

Seattle AA/Supercharged Qualifying Results

The conditions were as excellent for qualifying, but problems for the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy continued.  Oil pressure issues took out six push rods on the first pass and the result was a 7.08 second pass.  Repairs were made and the second pass was not much better,  6.92 seconds at 198 MPH.  The team must now look for a horsepower problem and get back on track for eliminations.  Qualifying results are shown below.

Mike Molea                    6.849     194.10
Howard Anderson         6.921     198.47
Mitch Chamberline        7.078     193.46
Dave Thompson             7.473     189.20
Gary Renero                   7.643     150.83
Dana Wilt                        7.984     173.01
Scott White                     9.654       92.71

Medford #1 Race Results

Race Day was another struggle to go A to B in less than perfect conditions.  Round 1 matched Howard Anderson with Mike Molea.  After a lengthy staging process, Mike got away with a science fiction .007 reaction time.  Howard was in the catch up role from the beginning.  When the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy went into 3rd gear, a huge bang came from under the body.  With a little luck on our side, Mike clipped a timing block and was immediately disqualified.  The damage to the power plant was extensive.  With little time for work, the team went into action.  A dropped valve, took out a cylinder head, three pistons and the supercharger.  We were able to make the repairs and return for the semi-finals.   Mitch Chamberlin was our opponent and he was running strong all weekend. We knew this was going to be a tough match-up.  The team decided to once again change the combination, in a last ditch effort to make the car go down the track, without 2nd and 3rd gear tire shake.  The shake problems continued, as the power from the Anderson machine proved to still be too much for the racing surface.  Mitch went on for the win with a solid 7.08 ET.

Mitch squared off with Scott White in the final.  Scott was able to dispose of 06' series champion Gary Reinero, in the previous round, to earn a birth in the final.  It was a great race with Scott White taking the win, posting a 7.05 Event Low ET to a solid 7.11 ET for Mitch Chamberlin.  Congratulations to the entire White family for a great outing and a well deserved victory.

The series now moves on to Seattle in two weeks for potential record performances.  Stay tuned for further updates

Medford Qualifying Results

The Anderson race team experienced another struggle in qualifying, at the Medford AA/Supercharged season opener.  Conditions were less than ideal with temperatures in the mid 90's and track temperatures in the 140 range.  When the dust settled, the Sierra Pipe 38' Chevy was on top of the heap, with a less than stellar 7.07 ET at 195.56 MPH.  Down track tire shake, push rod and ignition problems plagued the team through qualifying.  Tomorrow is a new day and an opportunity to sort things out and live up to our performance potential.  Field qualifying results are shown below.

1.  Howard Anderson  7.078  195.56
2.  Gary Reinero           7.151  191.78
3.  Mitch Chamberlin   7.180  189.92
4.  Scott White              7.187  170.97
5.  Mike Molea               7.201  188.38
6.  Dave Thompson       7.348  188.89
7.  Dana Wilt                   7.688  176.65
8.  Dave Inglis                7.724  167.07

West Coast Hot Rod Association Results

Note:  Event Rescheduled for July 13th

Qualifying Saturday at Autoclub Famoso Raceway was a marathon.  Multiple delays for oil and a crash, pushed our qualifying session out past 2:30 in the afternoon.  Our qualifying pass was unusual as usual.  The car left smooth and straight and the result was a 6.82 second pass at only 186 MPH, qualifying the Anderson 38' Chevy in the #3 position.  It turns out that #1 push rod burned at 1.5 seconds into the run and left us with only seven working cylinders for the pass.  The blower belt came off at 6.1 seconds and the car coasted to the 186MPH speed.  We were able to make all of the repairs just in time for the officials to cancel the remainder of Saturday qualifying, based on yet another major oil down.

With Sunday came the rain.  We waited until 10:00AM and decided the chances of running the race were slim and headed home.

It turns out the race has been rescheduled for the Weekend of July 13th and 14th.  This race has now been combined with a previously scheduled event, providing the possibility of winning two events in the same weekend........interesting.

March Meet 2007 Results - Event Summary

The 2007 March Meet brought a bag of mixed results.  On the bright side the Anderson Racing 38' Chevy ran a career best speed of 208.52MPH.  On the down side, all of this newly found horsepower has created a tire shake problem that the team has yet to solve consistently.  Even with a peddle job in low gear during qualifying, we still managed to qualify in the top half of the field at #4.  Following a review of the results and the associated computer data, the realization of the potential for earth shattering performance is right at our fingertips.  The key is consistency through proper clutch management.

We appreciate everyone’s support this weekend and we will continue to work for the results that all of our supporters are looking for.  We may have a long break in the race schedule, if we do not choose to attend another AA/Gas Supercharged event at Bakersfield next month.  We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.

The Anderson Racing team would like to congratulate Chris Abby for a tremendous victory in this years March Meet, as he defeated Dale Boomgaarden.  Chris Abby cut a solid .069 light and combined it with a 6.73 second ET at 207.85 MPH.  Dale was right at his side with a .063 light and an ET of 6.75 seconds at 207.75 MPH.

Vegas Test 2007

Friday Testing

The Anderson racing team arrived in Las Vegas to test a few new components and settings.  The weekend test included many professional teams, with the focus on the Pontiac Pro Stock Showdown. The Sierra Pipe 38 Chevy made three runs on Friday with mixed results.  The first pass resulted in immediate tire shake and a 7.26  Second at 201.40 MPH run.  Howard, Dan and Chris got together and made many changes to the combination for the second run.  The changes worked well, with some tire shake in low gear.  The result was a new track record for AA/Gas Supercharged.  6.65 Seconds at 206.67 MPH  The 1.06 60' time left room for improvement with the outstanding track conditions.  The third pass was an opportunity to go for it.  Unfortunately the car rolled the lights and shifted into second immediately.  Howard continued to drive to the finish with an unusual result.  7.02 sec at 205.67 MPH.   The team plans to make a single run on Saturday and return home for Superbowl Sunday.
